Everyday Occasions Cards - Day 1

About a week ago, I held my first workshop where I used a kit as the creative inspiration and it was loads of fun!

Before the group arrived, I opened the Everyday Occasions kit, laid out all the card bases together and displayed the stamps and embellishments from the set. Then I added scissors, adhesive, and the two full size stamp pads that matched the ink spots (Island Indigo and Basic Gray). I also put out the Stampin’ mist and Stampin’ Scrub so they could easily change ink colors whenever they wanted.

Once everyone arrived and settled in, I covered a few card-making basics, including how to use the glass block for clear stamps, put the stickers on them, and how to use snail adhesive. Then the fun began!

After I showed the kit contents, the ladies each chose one of the card bases, picked their favorite stamp, and attached its sticker. They quickly set to work picking an ink color and embellishments for their creations. Surprisingly, nobody really used the sample sheet the kit provided! Some made 2 cards, or even three.

When the cards were finished, there was “stuff” everywhere! It looked like this picture but with 4 times as much mess! Have you ever met a neat stamper? Are you one? I'm definitely not!

I might mention here that in addition to the pieces included in the kit, I brought out my stack of leftover pieces from previous projects and let them use those as well. It was a blast! (If I get the opportunity to do it again, I’ll have to remember to take pictures of the happy chaos and everyone’s cards).

Once everyone’s orders were completed, I was delighted to see that two people had added a kit to their order. For new stampers especially, I think the kits are a really good value. Card stock, ink, embellishments, baker’s twine, samples and even some Stampin’ Dimensionals are included, so the fun can begin right away. Since there are many punched pieces to choose from, the kit is perfect for anyone whose punch options are limited by budget or space as well.

Following the party, I took all the remaining kit pieces and started to assemble the 10 cards left over. I used the sample sheet as a starter, but changed out pieces to use what was left in the kit. Today I’ll show the first four cards:

Card #1: On the Kraft congratulations card, I substituted a feather for the scalloped circle below the sentiment.

Card #2: On this Thinking of You card, I swapped Summer Starfruit heart for the green one shown because I wanted it to stand out.

Card #3: For the 3x3” hexagon patterned kraft card, I changed the tag & sentiment, left off the twine and added hearts and a cute clip. The small heart was punched from the scrap silver glimmer paper in the kit, using the owl builder punch heart.

Card #4: The second Congratulations card has one additional mini Calypso Coral heart, which I think came from the Framed Love Paper Pumpkin kit.

I hope you enjoyed your visit. Stay tuned for more samples in my next post! If you need information or would like to order any of these items the links are listed below. Thanks for visiting!

PPA211 Color Challenge

This week there's another color challenge at the Pals Paper Arts - PPA211! Here is the pretty color combo for the challenge and my card :

The inspiration for my creation was this beautiful card by Lynn on Pinterest. I liked the central butterfly image and the colored square layered on an embossed piece of whisper white card stock, so I started with those, but chose to incorporate more Daffodil Delight in my design. I love bright yellow, whether it's in my garden, on a card, or on my kitchen walls!

The butterfly was stamped in Night of Navy on a 2-1/2 inch square of whisper white cardstock. After stamping, the image was colored with Daffodil Delight and an aqua painter. A Daffodil Delight marker was used to emphasize the patterrn on the butterfly. Then the edges of the square were sponged in Night of Navy to help them stand out from the white embossed layer.

The Make a Wish stamp from the Perfect Pennants set was also stamped in Night of Navy, then mounted on a square of Night of Navy.

To balance out all the Navy, a yellow ribbon was added and the 'A' in Make a Wish was stamped in Daffodil Delight and punched out with the 1/2" circle punch, then popped up with a Dimensional.

After it was all assembled, it needed a bit of bling to put it in party mode, so a row of rhinestones was added to the top of the sentiment. (Every birthday needs a little bling, right??)

Hope you enjoy my creation and that you have time to play today! Happy Stamping!

Serene Birds for PPA210 Color Challenge

Good Morning! Hope you all had a fantastic 4th of July weekend and are ready for the start of a new week.

Over at Pals Paper Arts, there's a color challenge this week with this color palette:

PPA210 Basic Gray Lost Lagoon Pool Party

The card I'm sharing with you today started with the basic gray stamped image from Serene Silhouettes and was originally intended to be a sympathy card. The colors are so tranquil and could easily be used for that, as well as many other occasions. The birds were colored with an aqua painter in lost lagoon.

As I assembled the layers for the bird image, my mind wandered in another direction and I decided to make this into a card for a friend I haven't seen recently. To incorporate the challenge colors while keeping the card light, I framed the birds in basic gray from the neutrals dsp pack, then in lost lagoon, and added a pool party ribbon.

A quick swipe of basic gray, some hearts stamped repeatedly in lost lagoon with the Work of Art stamp set, and the sentiment from Thoughts and Prayers complete the card.

Who are you thinking of today? Why not create a quick card to send off and let them know you're thinking of them!

Happy Stamping!
